Are uPVC doors good?

Doors made from uPVC are stronger and more durable than most other doors. If you look at a wooden door or frame, you'll see that it can warp or even start to rot with moisture and the regular changes in weather and temperature. uPVC doesn't do this.

uPVC windows and doors are on the rise in popularity. In some companies you will only find uPVC, rather than a range of options. This material is becoming so common that it will likely be in most doors in the near future and for good reason. These doors are sturdy and reliable and come in a variety of designs to suit your home decor. You’ve likely heard of PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, but have you heard of uPVC? PVC is often used in pipes and similar products that need to be somewhat flexible. Regular PVC contains plasticisers to keep it flexible. These include BPA and phthalates. However, uPVC is unplasticised (which is what the u stands for) and is also referred to as rigid plastic. Overall, uPVC is a better material for construction and for that reason, it’s used for everything from railings to sidings and sewer pipes. However, it’s particularly useful for making doors and windows.

uPVC Windows and Doors: What’s the Excitement About?

More and more companies are opting to provide only uPVC doors and windows. They’re so popular that it is becoming the main choice for everyone interested in installing new doors. These doors are designed to be very low maintenance and they’re also quite solid, allowing you to feel safe and secure in your own home. uPVC is a much cheaper material for windows and doors and is used to replace hardwood and aluminium, among other types of door materials. The main reason for this is that the uPVC is extremely strong. It uses vinyl polymer that is bonded with chlorine to create a non-plastic material that can be combined with steel. It also reduces costs overall and makes these doors and windows quite affordable.

Why You Should Consider uPVC Front Doors

If you’re looking for a front door, uPVC should certainly be high on the list of options. This material is sufficiently strong enough to provide the same protection as a solid wood door, so it’s a good choice for defending your home against the outdoors. However, it has a number of benefits above and beyond that of wood and metal.

They’re Energy Efficient

These doors are created to prevent temperature changes from moving through them. If it’s hot outside, the heat won’t penetrate the door and if it’s cold, that won’t come through either. The uPVC helps keep your heating or air conditioning right where it belongs, which means you pay less to heat or cool your home. This means a smaller carbon footprint, which is better for the environment, and money saved on energy costs. The fact that these doors are so energy efficient means you’ll probably want them on every door frame in your home, to ensure the entire place is properly set up.

They Last Longer

Doors made from uPVC are stronger and more durable than most other doors. If you look at a wooden door or frame, you’ll see that it can warp or even start to rot with moisture and the regular changes in weather and temperature. uPVC doesn’t do this. In fact, it’s unaffected by temperatures, so you can rest easy that it will be good for years to come.

Looking for a sliding door to the patio? You can find it in uPVC. Wish you could get a folding door? Again, this is available in this durable material. In fact, you should be able to find just about anything you’re interested in available in uPVC. Patio doors, kitchen doors, sliding doors, and even front doors are all available and in a range of designs to suit your needs. There’s really no reason not to go with uPVC when it is so versatile.

They Are Secure

Technically, metal frames are the most secure in the industry, but uPVC frames are a very close second. They provide the strength necessary to make it tough for anyone to break in and they are not easily messed with. If you want solidity, a front door made from uPVC is a good choice. If anyone is trying to get through a solid uPVC door, they’re going to find it quite difficult. This goes for window frames, as well, which tend to be a weak point when they’re wood.

They Reduce Noise Pollution

If you’re tired of hearing all the cars driving by in full sound, as well as the neighbours making noise, you’ll find that uPVC doors do the best job of preventing that noise from getting into your home. Windows are also an issue, but double glazed window glass with uPVC frames will also go a long way toward reducing the noise levels from outdoors. Combining windows and doors with proper insulation throughout the house will help muffle some of the noise coming from next door or the road outside.

They Are Insulated?

Doors and windows are some of the most likely spaces for cold air to get in and the same goes for heat. While walls and ceilings are easy enough to add insulation to, doors are often a weak point for temperatures. However, if you use uPVC for windows and doors, you’ll find that they are just as insulated as the rest of the home. There will be no draughts coming through them and you will enjoy comfort in your own home. As previously mentioned, they won’t cause issues with your electric bills and are very eco-friendly.

They Cost Less

Due to the lower cost of producing uPVC, it makes sense that the doors are considerably cheaper than those made from pricey hardwoods or even metal doors. Those materials can be expensive and that is reflected in the price of the door. However, uPVC doors are just as sturdy, but available for a lower price. This is part of what has made them so very popular, since price tends to be a major factor when you are looking for multiple doors to add to a home.

They Look Great

This material can be created in a variety of textures, as well as colours. Whatever you’re looking for in your home, you’ll find it in uPVC. The colour is built right in, so there’s no worry about it peeling or fading. These doors will stand the test of time and can even be made to look just like wood, without the pitfalls of actual wood. You can also find them with bevelled insets and a variety of standard and unique designs. Some doors also come with windows set into them, though you can choose exactly what you want and need in your own home.

Wooden doors tend to burn fairly well, but uPVC is almost impossible to light on fire. That means it will take a long time for one of these doors to burn and you can count on them to boost your fire safety in your home.

They Don’t Require Much Maintenance

These doors are made from an inert substance that won’t flake or rot after a few years in inclement weather. Instead, they will look just as great years after their installation, with nothing but the occasional mild cleaning. You can literally wipe the doors down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or grime that has built up and that’s all the maintenance required. Installing uPVC external doors is a decision that will not only make your life easier, but increase the value of your home. If you’re still hesitating about whether or not to install this type of door, it may be a good idea to go to a showroom and see them for yourself. They don’t look cheap or chintzy and are obviously high quality. They’re worthy of installation on any home.

Finding Glaziers

Who will install your doors and windows? That depends on who you choose. There are glaziers everywhere, but not all of them will do a great job of the installation. To find the right person for the job, you need to do a little research. Make a list of glaziers near you and then narrow it down to the ones that have good reviews. You should do the research in order to get the best company for the job. Finally, talk to the remaining installers on your list to determine which option is best for you. You may feel more of a connection to one, or they may have the door you want when no one else does. This can make your decision surprisingly easy.
