This three digit number between 300 to 850 is calculated based on the information in your credit report. Two scoring models — FICO and VantageScore — are the most widely used, although FICO tends to be the more popular choice among lenders. Whenever you apply for a line of credit, a lender will take a look at your credit score to decide whether to extend a loan to you and determine what terms are appropriate.
