Carports that are build at the side of properties on designated land will require planning permission (designated land includes conservation areas, National Parks, the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Sites). Carports built within the curtilage of listed buildings will also require planning permission. The permitted development limitations we have listed apply to houses only. Please visit the official Government Planning Portal for further information regarding carports for flats, maisonettes, converted houses, other buildings and areas where there may be additional restrictions on your permitted development rights, e.g. an Article 4 Direction.
