Read More »Tarps. Plastic tarps provide nearly instant protection for goods stored outdoors. Simply covering and wrapping them may be ample for inexpensive items, such as wood piles, keeping them out of the elements. A tarp attached lean-to style along the side of a garage or corner of a fence creates a tentlike storage area.
Plastic crates, such as the kind used by milk and beverage delivery companies, stack and lock together side by side or vertically. These crates are also incredibly strong and weather-resistant. Stack a number of them to create walls that you can hold in place with plastic zip ties. A top for that homemade structure can be an old sheet of plywood, a tarp or other building scraps you come across. If stacked so the crates' open ends face into your storage area, you've added loads of additional storage space for small items such as garden tools, potting soil and virtually anything you don't want to store in the house.
