We’ve all heard it before: touch your face with your hands and you’ll likely cause a breakout. So it comes as no surprise that we’re also told not to apply our makeup with our fingers. We have recently learned, however, that using your hands to apply makeup can actually be a superior application when compared with using a brush. We got the lowdown on how you can use this super easy application without fear of getting pimples.

It all starts with clean hands

It’s that easy! Just wash your hands prior to the application and you’re good to go!

Some products are more effective than others

Fingers are best for blending cream products - think concealers, foundations, cream blush, etc. This is because your body heat will blend and disperse better than a brush. The team at BIRCHBOX says it's all about the warmth. The warmth generates slip and movement of the product.

Better Control, Superior Application

Finger application allows for more control of where you place the product. It is easier to limit how much you use and the intensity of it. For example, when you apply concealer and use a brush you are basically just brushing products around and you can’t layer as well.

More Natural Finish

Foundation should be seen and not felt—you don’t want to feel like you have a mask on and that is where finger application comes into play. It may seem daunting, but applying your foundation with your fingers can provide a desirable finish that isn't achievable with a brush or sponge. The foundation blends more seamlessly into the skin and absorbs similarly to a moisturizer. Finger application is not only more effective but can also be a lot quicker. This makes it a great technique when you're rushing out the door or applying makeup on-the-go. It gives you more flexibility and freedom to touch-up your makeup without bringing a bag full of brushes. If you're still worried about using your fingers, you can always add the Stack Brush BFF to your collection. While it may not be a 20-piece brush set, it does do the work of 5 brushes and it comes with a lid so it can stay bacteria-free while it rolls around in your bag.
