Ridge-Guard Installer Michigan

Ridge-Guard is a product that became available in 2017 for wildlife control professionals. Ridge vents are the most popular types of ventilation for attic spaces. However, the current plastic design of most systems allow easy access by bats and mice. The problem is illustrated in the photos below. Bats enter the attic directly by bypassing the ridge-vent. Notice the bat droppings on the shingles in the photo to the right. Previously, the only solution was to use a black roofing foam to secure the ridge vent to the roof (not impacting ventilation). While this method is successful, it is not necessarily a permanent solution and periodic maintenance can be required. For example, while bats do not gnaw, other critters such as mice and squirrels can chew through foam. Also, UV rays from the sun can break down the roofing foam over time. It is also true that plastic ridge vents themselves can be gnawed thorugh by squirrels. Now, we have options that can reinforce this weakpoint!

The Long Term Solution: Ridge-Guard

Plastic ridge vents have been the weak point in any bat exclusion. They flex, warp and move allowing entry points to develop. We highly recommend ridge-guard over any other methods to secure these vents from bats (and mice!). If you have a roof in good condition with many years of useful life, or plan to be in your home for a long time, Ridge-Guard is certainly worth the investment. Ridge-Guard is manufactured in America and is used to secure most types of ridge vents from bats, mice and other critters. The product is being widely installed across the United States. It is installed over your existing ridge vent to block entry by critters. The steel is powder coated black, and will keep gnawing mice out.

The Shorter Term Solution: Black Foam

One of the older more primative method to keep bats out of ridge vents was the use of black foam. While we do not prefer this method, it was all that was available for a long time. We still offer this method because we understand all customers needs are different. For example, if you have a very old roof that will be replaced soon this can provide an economical shorter term solution. Also, this is a more economical option for some customers.Ridge-Guard is a long term solution to secure your ridge vents from critters. It looks great on a variety of shingle styles. This is a project that was completed by our team.
