Almost every building makes use of utilities and services that rely on a network of cables and pipework to carry them to and from the property. But can flexible conduit be used underground?

Good news – yes! Thanks to their flexibility and mechanical resistance flexible conduits can be installed underground to protect utilities against damage, tampering and weathering.. Flexible conduits come in extremely useful and offer a host of safety features, including corrosion, flame and water resistance. There are millions of miles of cables in the UK so leaving them on the surface would be virtually impossible – and a bit of a trip hazard! Flexible conduits, buried underground, make a far safer and neater alternative. They are often used for longer runs as they are quicker to install than their rigid counterparts. When pipes and cables are buried, they should be laid in a duct. The coil will contain a draw cord that enables pipes or cables to be pulled through once it’s installed. Coils can then be joined together using loose couplers. Here at Flex-It, we supply the best flexible conduit systems on the market – perfect for areas where space is at a premium. Our conduits have the flexibility to negotiate tight bends, twists and turns and are straightforward to lay. But, when it comes to using a flexible conduit underground, there is only one product for the job…twin walled underground burial conduit!

Twin walled underground burial conduit range

Underground flexible conduit is great. It’s made from HDPE by a twin-extrusion process – meaning that two pipes are extruded simultaneously, one inside the other, and heat welded in one continuous process. It has a corrugated exterior and smoother inner core. This flexible conduit is one of the most robust and offers high chemical and water resistance, allowing installation even if irregularities in the ground are present. At Flex-It, we supply the flexible conduit in an assortment of sizes, including:

40mm

50mm

63mm

110mm

160mm

They are available in 25 and 50m coil lengths and supplied in various diameters, ranging from 32-137mm on the interior, and 40-160mm on the exterior. All coils within this series are supplied complete with one conduit coupler per coil and the draw-cord pre-installed throughout. If you would like to know more about our underground flexible conduit range, or for help with flexible cable management, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are always on hand to help and will be more than willing to answer your questions.
