We all know how hard it is for an artist to make enough money from their chosen profession. It is somewhat of a secret in the chainsaw carving industry of just how much money full time chainsaw carvers make. There are many chainsaw carvers earning more than one hundred thousand dollars a year. Dozens, if not hundreds, of carvers make more than fifty thousand. Even beginner and mediocre carvers are making substantial money in this art form. The demand for chainsaw carvers is very high and the supply is very low. If someone wants to earn a living as an artist, they almost can’t do any better than chainsaw carving. The biggest challenge faced by aspiring chainsaw carvers is getting training. Where does one go to school to learn how to chainsaw carve? Up until 2004, almost everyone in the chainsaw carving business was self-taught. The other chainsaw carvers refused to share information or guidance because they didn’t want the competition. All that changed with the opening of a chainsaw carving school by a professional chainsaw carver willing to share his hard-earned skill. That professional carver is George Kenny. The George Kenny School of Chainsaw Carving, near Seattle, Washington, is where a person can take classes on chainsaw carving. Mr. Kenny has taught over 100 students the art of chainsaw carving and recently signed agreements with two community colleges to teach his curriculum at their locations. Students have been flying in from all over the country to take the class and gain from Mr. Kenny’s 12 years of industry experience. Once the students graduate from his class, they often go on to earn money from selling their chainsaw carved creations. Mr. Kenny is allowing some of his most successful students to pass along the teachings they gained from the school. The new teachers are licensed to use the George Kenny School of chainsaw Carvings curriculum and methods. The school will even help the licensees to develop galleries where their new students can market their work.
