Do I need planning permission?

Flats

You must apply for full planning permission to erect a garden building, greenhouse or shed in your garden. This includes timber sheds.

Houses

You must apply for householder planning permission to erect a garden building, greenhouse or shed if: the total area of ground covered will be greater than 50 per cent of the total land around the house

it will be at the front of the house

it will be at the side of a house which is in a conservation area

it will be built in the grounds of a listed building

it will be at the side or front of a house covered by an Article 4 Direction

it will be more than one storey high

it will be more than 4m high with a pitched roof or 3m high with a flat roof. If it will be within 2m of the boundary of the house, it must be 2.5m high

its eaves will be more than 2.5m high

it will include a veranda, balcony or raised platform.

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ - Woodworking hobbyists spend more on their craft - a total $3.32 billion - than other crafting enthusiasts.According to a new study by the Craft & Hobby Association, more than 16.8 million households do woodworking, earning the hobby the number four ranking, right after drawing (21 million households), scrapbooking (18.4 million) and crocheting (17.4 million).The crafting association says its U.S. Attitude & Usage Study found that 56% of U.S. households crafted at least once during 2010, contributing $29.2 billion U.S. craft and hobby industry.The Craft & Hobby Association, which will hold its national conference and trade show this summer in Chicago, tracks sales in eight broad categories for 53 individual crafts. Woodworking hobbyists fall within the $9.9 billion General Crafts segment, which represents 34% of all craft industry sales.
