No matter what you are planning to use a garden building for, adding a toilet into your garden room design is always going to be beneficial and convenient. There are many reasons why you may want to consider having a garden room with a toilet installed, and it will all depend on what you want to use your garden building for. Are you looking at installing a garden office with toilet so you can quickly use the facilities in between meetings, or perhaps you’re in need of an entertainment space with a toilet room where friends and family can freshen up? Maybe you would like a toilet or shower room installed in your new garden gym to get clean after a sweaty workout or you may be considering going all out on having a garden room with a toilet and kitchenette fitted as part of your business facilities. We know you may have some queries when it comes to adding a bathroom in your garden room, but we are on hand to offer some advice and answer some of our most frequently asked questions.

What size should my garden room toilet be?

There is no set answer for what size your garden room toilet should be as it all depends on what you are planning on putting inside. Do you need room for just a toilet and a sink, or would you also like space for a shower or a bath? As all our garden buildings are hand-crafted to order, we can create rooms using partitions so we can make them as big as you require. With the average size of a UK toilet being 0.5m wide and 0.75m deep, the smallest size we would recommend making a partition for your washroom is 1.2 x 1.8m. This should give you just about enough room to comfortably add your toilet and a small sink. If you require your bathroom to have a shower, you will need to consider adding a larger partition into the design of your building as shower cubicles have an average size of 0.7 x 0.7m.

If you are planning to incorporate a small kitchen into your design, you will need to think about what your main requirements are. The standard size of a kitchenette is 1.2 x 0.9m, but do you just need space for a small sink and a draining board or are you thinking about having a fridge and cupboards installed too?

Our sales advisors often get asked ‘can you put a toilet in my garden building?’ While Crane Garden Buildings don’t offer plumbing services, we can add the necessary partitions into your building design to allow you or your plumber to add what you need post-installation. It will be relatively straightforward for a plumber to fit a shower room or toilet as the FSC® certified timber we use to craft our garden buildings is easy to drill through. Your plumber will then be able to recommend the best solution for getting a water supply to your building and getting you connected to a sewerage system. As well as adding partitions for toilets, we are able to add partitions to give you additional storage space or create additional rooms inside your building so you can use it for different purposes at the same time. We also offer electrical installation so your building can have power and lighting. This will enable your garden office with toilet to have sockets for your laptop charger, your garden gym can have electrical equipment such as a treadmill, and your hobby room can have plenty of light to aid you with your crafting. For more details about how we get you connected, please see our how to get electricity into your garden building article. Whether you are looking for a pool house, garden office, hobby room, garden gym or entertainment space, we have styles to suit every taste in our garden rooms collection. After selecting what style of building you would like, you can then tailor it to your needs with our range of interior and exterior design options as each of our buildings are hand-made to order inside our Norfolk factory. If you would like to discuss your garden rooms project with us, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. You can email sales@cranegardenbuildings.co.uk or you can give our HQ a call on. Our friendly advisors will be more than happy to help where they can and use their knowledge on our buildings to recommend the best garden room for your requirements.
