Timber and plywood serve many DIY purposes around the house, but most stores, including Wickes, sell them in large panels. If you don’t have adequate cutting tools at home, you may have second thoughts when it comes to choosing the retailer. Affordable prices are nice, and all, but Wickes wood cutting services would be better. That’s where the question comes:

Does Wickes Provide Cutting Services?

Unfortunately, Wickes doesn’t provide wood cutting services. The retailer doesn’t mention this service on its website, nor does it advertise it in stores. Anecdotal evidence suggests that some larger Wickes stores provide such a service. However, you may want to shop from another retailer, such as B&Q, if you don’t want to risk looking for independent timber cutting services.

Does B&Q Have a Cutting Service?

Unlike Wickes, B&Q is cutting wood to size in its stores, as it is clearly advertised on the B&Q website. You have to know, though, that there are conditions and limitations. The B&Q cut to size service is only offered to customers who’ve bought the timber in-store. You don’t need an appointment, meaning that you can have the timber panels cut to size on the spot. However, the service may vary from branch to branch, and it could be unavailable in some branches. That said, you can have your timber cut in most branches, and there is no limit on how many cuts you can require. As part of its policy, B&Q offers the first 15 cuts for free. If you need more pieces, each cut required over the threshold costs 50p. That’s a small price to pay to cut wood in store, considering that most carpenters would charge you much more for the job. The only thing to have in mind is the operational capability and limitations of the saws B&Q specialists use: Saw type Min panel length Max panel length Min panel height Max panel height Max panel thickness Vertical panel saw 500mm 3300mm 230mm 2160mm 80mm Cross cut saw - 3000mm - 150mm 125mm

Find a B&Q Cutting Service Near Me

Finding a wood cutting service near you is easy, thanks to B&Q’s store locator tool. Simply insert your postcode or town in the search bar, and the interactive tool will show you the stores near you on a map. You can now select the preferred store from the list and click on Store Info. A new page will appear with all store details, including the address, opening times, and all services and facilities. In this last section, you can check and see if the timber cutting service is available in the store you selected. As of January 2022, B&Q’s timber cutting service is available in most stores, but the following branches are excluded from the 15 free cuts policy:

Barrow

Beckton

Blackpool

Halifax

Glasshoughton

Swindon

Huddersfield

Leeds

Killingbeck

Newtownabbey

Romford

New Malden

Thornbury Road York

York Clifton Moor

Roneo Corner

West Thurrock

Warrington

To End

An in-store wood cutting service comes with many advantages. Not only will you be able to have your timber cut to size cheap or free of charge, but you won’t have to start looking for a carpenter near you. Even if you have adequate woodworking tools, having the panels cut in-store can save you a lot of hassle and mess. And while Wickes doesn’t offer a wood cutting service, we hope you have found the right alternative in this guide.
