How do I calculate how much gravel I need?

To measure the driveway in cubic feet, multiply the length by width by depth. For cubic yards, divide the total cubic feet by 27. Because one cubic yard of gravel is equal to 1.13 tons, you can multiply your total cubic yards by 1.13 to convert this measurement to tons.

Calculating Gravel Amounts for Your Driveway

Calculating Gravel

When estimating the amount of gravel you need to cover your driveway, your estimate will depend on the type of gravel you choose, like pea or crushed gravel. Different grades are found in particles from fine to course, ranging from 2-64 mm. The volume of gravel must also be calculated according to the size of the rocks. Choose the gravel you'd like to use before digging the depth of your driveway, and then figure out how much you will need by using these simple calculations tips.

Understanding Size and Coverage

Gravel should be a minimum of 4-inches deep. The smaller the gravel, the more even the coverage will be. If rocks are on the larger side, allow for an additional 1/2 inch. Using 2 inches for the depth, the following measurements are a guide to the amount of gravel coverage per ton: 1/4 to 1/2 inch gravel, 100 square feet per ton; 1/2 to 1 inch gravel, 90 square feet per ton; and 1 1/2 to 2 inches gravel, 80 square feet per ton.

Measuring the Driveway

To measure the driveway in cubic feet, multiply the length by width by depth. For cubic yards, divide the total cubic feet by 27. Because one cubic yard of gravel is equal to 1.13 tons, you can multiply your total cubic yards by 1.13 to convert this measurement to tons.

Working With Gravel

When working with gravel for a driveway, calculate the measurements for an underlay separately. A road base is good for a bottom layer, while decorative gravel is best overlaid the road base. Using 2 inches of road base overlaid with 2 inches of gravel will greatly reduce your costs. Now, you're ready to build your gravel driveway.

Is it good to put gravel on top of soil?

Improve water retention. "The pebble barrier stops the evaporation of water from the soil," the expert explains. "They are a great way to absorb excess water in a container, but also to release water when the pot is drying out. This combined with a top dressing is a natural way to aid your plant's water consumption."

Puppies are irresistible. We fall in love with their big eyes, little button noses, fluffy tails, and clumsy paws. And yet, like any pet, puppies grow up and turn into dogs. Some breeds, like the Old English Sheepdog or Great Dane, will grow to become larger in size than most people. But not all dogs are destined to become giants. There are some breeds that stay small in size even when they're fully grown. You may want a forever puppy if you are used to smaller animals. Maybe you have a small apartment or just want a canine companion that you can easily carry along with you anywhere you go. Small dogs are also great for families with young children or those of senior age who are best matched with a breed they can physically handle. Fortunately, some specialty dog breeds are mixed to look like puppies throughout their entire lives—and they are sure to melt your heart the second you lay your eyes on them.
