White uPVC windows are very popular in the UK and it’s easy to spot them on all kinds of home. One of the reasons why they’re so popular is because they’re super easy to keep clean. To ensure you get the best results when cleaning white uPVC windows, we’ve created this handy guide for those of you who want to clean your windows in the most eco-friendly, chemical-free way.

What you will need:

Hoover with a soft brush nozzle

White vinegar and warm water solution

A non-abrasive sponge or cloth

Reusable microfibre cloths

Old newspaper

Spray bottle

Cleaning uPVC window frames and sills:

Step 1: Open up the windows as far as you can and go over every part of them with the hoover. This will remove any excess dirt. Step 2: Mix your eco-friendly window cleaning solution using 1 part distilled white vinegar and four-parts warm water. Using the soft sponge/cloth and vinegar solution, start wiping down the windows. Make sure you wipe down the windowsills too at this point. Step 3: Mop up any excess water using a micro fibre cloth and dry the windows. After this, your frames and cills should be looking pretty pristine. However, if they are not and they are especially dirty, pour pure distilled vinegar into the spray bottle. Spray this onto the uPVC and leave to soak for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing the spot and wiping away with a clean, soft cloth.

Your uPVC window frames should now be a bright, crisp white again!

Cleaning the glass on uPVC windows:

Step 1: Using a mixture of 1 part distilled white vinegar and 1-part warm water, lightly dip the old newspaper into the vinegar cleaning solution. Step 2: Wipe the glass panes in a circular motion, taking extra care to remove any smears and dirty spots. This should leave the glass panes on your uPVC windows looking crystal clear! Important tip! Never use any cleaning products that are not suitable for use on uPVC because this can lead to permanent damage to the framing and the glass. Eco-friendly solutions such as these are the best way to keep your uPVC windows looking great for longer, as even the weakest chemical-based mixtures can irreversibly dull and damage uPVC window frames.

What if they still don’t look as good as you’d like…

If your uPVC windows still don’t look as good as you’d like them to, it might be time to replace them. This is especially true if your windows are very old. Not only will replacement windows keep your home warmer for less, but they’ll also be more secure than older windows. Here at P&P Glass, we have a range of uPVC window options available.
