Need help ordering your perfect roll-up door? Measuring your roll-up door for light-duty or heavy-duty applications can be an easy task that requires little time, detailed instruction, accuracy, and precision. We’ve broken down the process into five easy steps for your convenience and clarity:

1. Door Opening

Measure the width of the finished opening area. This is the distance between the right and left sides of the finished opening. Make sure to keep an eye out for any irregularities such as jambs that are not square. Measure in ¼” increments to make sure you have an accurate door size.

2. Side Room

Measure for side room. 4″ – 11″ (depending on door series) is required on each side for installation of the vertical track, this area needs to be capable of flush mounting the tracks and clear of any obstructions. (contact manufacturer for specifics)

3. Inside Dimensions of Door Jamb

Measure the width of the rough opening at the widest point. This is the distance between the right and left sides of the finished opening in feet and inches (to the ¼”). Then measure the height from the floor to the bottom of the header. The finished opening measurement will be the same size as the roll up door size you will need to order.

4. Clearance of Door Jamb

Measure the clearance from the inside edge of the jamb to the wall or nearest obstruction. The average distance required for most garage door installations is 3 ½” to 11” depending on the series.

5. Head Room

Measure the distance between the top of the door opening and the ceiling or nearest obstruction.

Verify electrical outlet for door opener use.

Note any lights or stairs in the way.

Verify that all jambs are in good condition and that the header is stable.

Verify the label of the floor. Was the previous door a custom fit?
