At Pro Spray Foam Insulations, one of the questions that we get asked a lot is how to stop condensation in a metal shed? Condensation in a metal shed or unit, is not just annoying when the condensation drips on your head, it can also lead to serious problems such as mold or mildew growth (which causes unpleasant odours and health risks), insect infestations, harvest loss, and corrosion (metal ceilings, walls and fasteners exposed to moisture can oxidize and weaken, shortening the life of your building). Before we look at how to eliminate condensation in a metal shed, we first need to understand what causes condensation in a metal shed.

What causes condensation in a metal shed?

There are two factors to note when discussing condensation;

warm air holds more moisture than cold air, and warm air is lighter than cold air. Condensation occurs when the temperature inside a building is warmer than the temperature outside (usually at night, when the metal becomes several degrees cooler than the ambient air temperature). Warm, moisture filled-air rises, and meets the cold metal shed roof and cools. The dew point is the temperature to which air must be cooled to become saturated with water vapour. When cooled further, the airborne water vapour will condense to form liquid water (dew). That dew gets left behind on the underside of the roof and drips to the floor. Water vapour is always in the air, however this moisture can be added to by the function of a commercial building, such as housing livestock, heaters and machinery running, water sumps, material for drying wood, grass etc., or by washing floors.

Using a spray foam insulation on the roof and walls of your metal building prevents the contact between the warm, humid air and the cool, dry metal panels. For commercial applications, Pro Spray Foam Insulations uses CPI Closed Cell Foam Insulation. With Closed Cell Foam Insulation, the bubbles in the foam are closed, resulting in a more dense form of insulation. One resounding benefit of Closed Cell Foam Insulation is that it acts as a barrier to water vapour. Here are some examples of a CPI Closed Cell Foam Insulation carried out by us on a warehouse recently: So in order to prevent condensation falling like rain and damaging the contents of the building such as cars, stock, machinery, or even damaging the building itself, give Pro Spray Foam Insulations a call. On what grounds can planning permission be refused?

The more common reasons for refusal are: Your project would overshadow a neighbour, causing them loss of light. Your building or structure overlooks other homes, causing loss of privacy. The appearance would be out of character with the existing property.

Planning permission will generally be granted providing the proposed work meets all of the relevant local policies and your council's Local Plan if applicable.
