After the header is in place, nail the jack studs to the inside faces of the studs that form the frame. The jack studs extend from the bottom of the header to the bottom plate, and their purpose is to support the header. The bottom sill then extends across the bottom of the window, toe-nailed to the jack studs. It's critical to install the sill level, and it should be far enough from the header to allow for a 1/2 inch of wiggle room. Cripple studs between the header and the top plate and the sill and the bottom plate, complete the framing.
