While UPVC windows and doors are relatively low maintenance compared to other materials such as timber, exposure to the elements can cause a build up of debris. As with any windows and doors, your UPVC frames will need cleaning properly from time to time to ensure they maintain their pristine condition. Our helpful guide talks you through how to clean UPVC doors and windows properly so they look as bright as when you first purchased them.

The Do’s & Don’ts Of Cleaning UPVC Doors & Windows

UPVC is a bright and shiny material, owing to its glossy coat on the plastic. Underneath the surface however is a dull appearance that doesn’t have the same appeal. When cleaning it’s important to protect this glossy shell so we want to be careful not to use abrasive cleaners and harsh detergents. When windows and doors haven’t been cleaned for a period of time it can be tempting to get the stainless steel scourers out from under the sink or even the scrubbing brush. And it can seem natural to spritz them with your household cleaning products. You may even be inclined to use bleach. All of these products and cloths are wrong however. Ordinary soap and water should be sufficient for cleaning most stains off your windows and doors and that’s all that should be used if you clean them regularly. If you are struggling with stains you cannot shift, mix together one part vinegar with one part hot water. This acidic mixture is a natural solution that teamed with a bit of elbow grease should shift stains easily. If you are worried about homemade products however you could shop for a specially formulated UPVC cleaner. Vinegar and water will have the same impact however.

How To Clean UPVC Doors

Open your door fully. Use the brush end of your hoover to remove all dust and deris from the exterior of your door and within the door frame and hinges. Mix an equal parts vinegar and warm water solution described above and add the solution to a spray bottle. Spray the UPVC door, avoiding any windows, and leave to soak for 10 minutes. Wipe clean with a soft cloth after. This technique is good for a first time clean for doors that have been left a while and have some build up. If you clean your doors regularly though applying a mixture of washing up liquid and water with a soft sponge then wiping clean will also be an appropriate way of cleaning your UPVC doors.

How To Clean UPVC Windows

As with cleaning UPVC doors, start by opening the window as far as you can and vacuuming inside the frame and hinges. If you have mould on the windows, use a paper towel to wipe clean. Tougher stains should be targeted by a specialist mould cleaner. Opening your windows regularly to allow fresh air to circulate will help prevent build up. Use the same vinegar and water solution as for UPVC doors for cleaning the frames. Then wipe clean with a cloth. For the glass panes themselves, apply soapy water (a few drops of washing up liquid in water) with a sponge and then use a dry cloth to remove the residue. The cleaning method for UPVC windows and doors is relatively straightforward. However there’s lots of things you must not do that you need to be aware of. Follow our simple guide and your UPVC frames should withhold their condition for many years to come.

Which is better uPVC or composite?

Both are versatile and can be designed in any way you choose. However, composite doors are more robust and resilient, meaning they will maintain their appearance for longer. While uPVC doors may suffer from the elements and fade over time, composite doors will not.

endurancedoors.co.uk - Composite Doors vs uPVC Doors

A uPVC door is purely plastic, which still makes them an effective door solution for homes across the UK. Their main draw is the affordability and their increased thermal efficiency. But composite doors offer the same functionality to a higher standard, making them a superior choice to the traditional uPVC door. Are composite doors better than uPVC? The difference between composite doors and uPVC doors is in the materials they are created with and the level of durability and security they provide. But, thanks to their design that presses and glues materials together under high pressure conditions, these modern options blow uPVC front and back doors out of the water in terms of strength and resilience. Our composite doors are 10% thicker than most others available on the market, leaving uPVC doors trailing behind in terms of strength and robustness. Made from only the highest quality materials and featuring a solid timber core, Endurance Doors are renowned for their solidity. When it comes to putting our composite doors through rigorous testing and assessments, we endeavour to deliver a perfect profile every time. Our doors have proven themselves against a sledgehammer, demonstrating why they are known as the door that will allow you the ultimate peace of mind. There are a number of features and benefits that composite doors provide that make them the ideal solution for the homeowner who wants a door that performs to the highest of standards. At Endurance, we specialise in the manufacture and creation of doors that surpass any uPVC door currently on the market.
