Don’t fret my friend, because after reading this article, you will know how to prevent and fix warped wood in your building. In order to keep wood from warping, keep your wood in a low-humidity environment, cool air with an approximate 55 percentage of humidity and some fresh air flow. The worst thing that can happen to your wood storage environment is sudden change in temperature and humidity. Learn More »Fixing warped wood is not always easy. But it can be worked around in some cases. If the bow is mild, a little elbow grease can sometimes do the trick. Repairing warped wood can be done by adding moisture back into the wood and using clamps or a heavy object on top to get it to bend back into its original shape. Use a wet paper towel and then reshape the wood with a clamp or a heavy object on top. The wood will soak up the water and bend back into place. The same can be done by using a wet towel and ironing the towel. The steam will pass through the towel into the wood. Another way to do this is to use a steamer and clamps. Apply the clamps in the proper spots and then apply steam. Leave the clamps in place for several days. Extremely warped and twisted wood fixes can be a little more complex. Since the wood will be shorter than the other pieces, it is often necessary to replace the wood. You can trim off the warped piece and use the shorter piece of wood for a shelf or another addition.
