The key to a long-lasting finish when painting UPVC is to use an electric spray painting gun, so the paint is applied in thin even layers. Providing it is applied correctly, with the right prep (cleaning, decontamination, masking) then UPVC spray lasts at least 10 years. We come to this 10-year figure based on our experience. We have spray painted the UPVC on hundreds of houses over the last decade. Some of the windows and doors we sprayed a decade ago still look freshly painted today. We provide a 10-year warranty with our spray painting work to provide peace of mind that your UPVC spray will last at least a decade.

Care tips

If you have a window cleaner, then they will clean your windows for you. You can ask them to clean the frames too. No extra care is needed when cleaning windows that have been spray painted. You can use a sponge and a bucket of soapy water. Although UPVC spray is painted on in thin, even layers, the combined thickness is approximately 100 microns. This is around the same as car paint. The paint dries hard and it is durable enough to resist normal wear.

What if it gets scratched?

UPVC spray is durable but it isn’t impervious to damage. Sharp metal objects and extreme abrasion can remove the paint from the UPVC. Thankfully, scratches and heavy wear can be spot fixed with repainting. This involves sanding down the old paint back down to the UPVC and spraying the area again. Providing the same colour is used, the repair should be imperceptible.

Should I be concerned about UV fade?

The paints we use are UV resistant and will not fade for at least 10 years. The reason inferior paints fade is because radiation from the sun changes the chemical makeup of the pigment. The paints we use are heavy-duty solvent-based paints that are formulated for industrial applications.

Overall

UPVC spray lasts at least 10 years and if you happen to scratch the paint or damage it, a spot repair is possible with a respray of the area.
