One of the most common shed sizes leaves people asking a lot of questions about its capabilities. What is the cost? How much can it hold? Will it work for me? Let’s see if we can answer those questions and more as we talk about the classic 10×12 shed.

How Much Does a 10×12 Shed Cost?

A 10×12 shed can cost anywhere from $3,000 – $12,000, depending on what you buy. I know that doesn’t give you the range you were hoping for, so let’s break it down a bit more from least to most expensive. Tier 1 – A simple 10×12 shed with wood siding and no windows is going to be the tier 1 option. Commonly built with T1-11 or similarly painted siding, this shed is generally created to store yard and garden tools. These sheds are typically priced between $3,000 – $4,500. These sheds are the base model and don’t include many (if any) custom features. Tier 2 – These sheds are the next step up, offering a bit more when purchasing. It could be more height, included features, or new material. It can also be minor changes in the structural design of the shed. This can consist of different centered floor joists. These sheds are commonly priced between $4,500 – $6,500, and this is going to be the most common purchase area. Tier 3 – The next level up will be the 1st level of finished sheds. This level will include some base-level finished interiors as well as more features (extra windows, vents, doors). The basic level of finish may consist of a finished floor level instead of plywood. The price point for these sheds ranges from $6,500 – $9,000. Tier 4 – The final level of 10×12 sheds will be the most expensive. This level can have wholly finished interior and exterior features. It could have a basic electrical package as well. There will be excess windows and other fun features that each company may include to help entice you. The price range for these sheds is $9,000 – $12,000. Depending on its features, don’t be surprised to see that 12k get pushed a little higher.

What Fits In A 10×12 Shed?

A 10×12 shed has 120 sq. feet…, or does it? If the shed is 10×12 on the outside, then the whole shed would be 120 sq feet. But what about the walls? The walls can actually eat into your interior spacing. Commonly, 10×12 sheds are around 105-110 sq feet on the inside. It is good to keep that in mind as you begin to measure the items you will place inside. So what can fit inside this shed? We are going to take a look at what works for a storage shed and what does for a living or hobby shed.

10×12 Shed Ideas

No matter how you plan to use your shed, it is always beneficial to get the creativity flowing with different ideas. Here are a few ways your 10×12 shed can be put to good use!

Loft

Simply adding a loft can bring additional space to your 10×12 shed. A loft only takes up a portion of your ceiling space but gives you another level in your shed to put things. This is especially helpful when you only need certain items once a year or less! If you are using your shed as a space for yourself, you can also put speakers, weights, or even lighting in your loft space.

Office

A 10×12 shed office is one of the most popular uses for a finished shedv. Working from home can be difficult because home and work have always been separate areas. A 10×12 shed can easily fit a desk, chair, and shelves to make sure you have a beautiful home office space.

Concession Stand

Creating a concession stand is one of the more fun ways to use a 10×12 shed. Whether you want to start a small family business for your neighborhood or just entertain your guests when they come over, a 10×12 shed can help. Pool House

A pool house shed is a great place to store materials and give privacy to anyone who needs it. Using a 10×12 shed as a pool house can create a simple changing area for your guests. Pools are seasonal, so you can also put all of the tools, toys, and maintenance supplies for your pool inside.

Is It Cheaper To Build Or Buy A 10×12 Shed?

It can be cheaper to build your own 10×12 shed, but if you don’t have the tools or experience…it can get expensive quickly. You can get the materials to build your shed in the upper $2k range, which is evidently less costly than even the cheapest of sheds at $3k+. It starts getting expensive when you find yourself in need of the tools to do it. If you don’t have the proper saws, power tools, and area to build…you are going to run up costs there. You can also run up costs with mistakes. If you haven’t taken on a project like this before, there may be a learning curve that results in $.

How Tall Is A 10×12 Shed

10×12 sheds can be anywhere from 6-10 feet in height. You can talk to your shed builders about a custom wall height that may differ from what they design.

10×12 Shed Foundation

A 10×12 shed foundation is essential. The foundation is what allows your shed to last longer without sinking or shifting in the ground. One of the best foundations you can build is a simple stone pad.

We can also help prepare your shed site as well!

It is not recommended to use pavers for a shed of this size. Stacks of blocks are never recommended. For more information on how we do our site preparation, check out this page!
