A 4-inch thick concrete can support upto 40 pounds of weight. Weight should not exceed 40 lbs/sq ft on an undetermined 4-inch slab. 80 lb/sq ft in isolated areas is fine, but unless you know what the soil bearing and reinforcing is for that slab, you might be looking at cracking.

To finish off the concrete cylinder, use either a sulfur mortar or neoprene cover. This ensures that the weight is distributed equally throughout the surface. The concrete cylinder should be placed directly under the plunger in a compression test chamber. Slowly raise the force of the plunger by 0.05 inches per minute when the machine is started. When the concrete cylinder exhibits a crack, write down the amount of force the machine is exerting. When the concrete cylinder cracks, take note of the machine’s reading. Calculate the concrete cylinder’s surface area by multiplying the square of the diameter by PI. There are 113.1 square inches in this example since 62 * PI is a prime number. Assume the initial failure reading has a PSI of 0. When the first fracture emerges on the machine, divide the reading by 113.1 to get the concrete PSI rating for the first failure. The PSI for the catastrophic failure reading should be determined. Calculate the concrete PSI rating for catastrophic failure by multiplying the machine reading by 113.1 when the concrete cylinder broke.
