It is easy to look at pictures of 10×12 sheds and admire how they look. It is something entirely different to be assured that the 10×12 shed has the ability to fulfill all your storage space needs. We know that a shed this size is not for everyone’s needs, so let us help you understand if a 10 x 12 shed is something that you need by giving you some pros and cons of this storage shed size.

Pros:

Permits may not be required:

Everyone wants to be able to live their life in peace as much as possible. It can be really difficult to do that when needing to apply for a permit to do what you want to do. Most municipal governments require a building permit for structures (including sheds) of a certain size. However, a 10×12 shed is small enough that many times it is not a requirement to have a permit for a building this size. However, it is still very important that you check this for yourself.

Unlike many larger sheds, 10×12 sheds are small enough to fit in smaller spaces and large enough to store everything you need. The 10×12 shed is ideal for those living in a city or town and their yard does not offer a lot of space. Conversely, maybe the size of your yard is not an issue for space, however, you may not want your shed to take up a large area in your yard. That is why a 10×12 shed is ideal for any sized yard, compact enough to not steal your yard away yet large enough to fulfill the needs you have.

Plenty of Storage Space:

Some people may feel that a storage space of 120 square feet is not very large. And we understand that it can be hard to visualize what can fit in a 10×12 storage shed. A 10×12 storage shed can easily fit in a riding lawn mower, gardening tools, pool rafts and Christmas lights comfortably! Some people have even started out their businesses in a shed that is half that size!

Cons:

May Be Too Small for Some Situations

We think that a 10×12 shed gives you an abundance of options for your storage needs. However we know there may be some cases where a shed that is larger is required. Perhaps you are looking to store large equipment such as multiple riding mowers or ATVS. A 10×12 shed may not be able to handle those needs. However, each situation is unique, maybe what you have is your children’s ATVS that are much smaller in size than a full size one or lawn mowers that are more compact that what we are envisioning. We would encourage you to map out a 10×12 shed on your property. To map out a shed for space we recommend that you subtract 1 foot from the length and the width to understand how much space is available on the interior. This means if you measure it out on the ground you would want the footprint to be 9 x 11. This will help you visualize what is truly going to fit in this space.
