As a material, metal is always going to be more durable than wood, and the same is true of sheds. Metal is extremely durable and will hold up even better than wood to wind, rain and debris. This durability means less maintenance and natural resistance to rot.

A galvanized steel shed isn't as heavy as other structures and can be placed directly on ground that is compacted undisturbed soil.
Most metal sheds, or storage buildings, are made of galvanized steel due to that material's resistance to rust. Essentially four walls and a roof, such a shed needs a solid, level base to sit on in order to be as sturdy as possible, but that doesn't mean you have to pour a concrete slab or footings. A galvanized steel shed isn't as heavy as other structures and can be placed directly on ground that is compacted undisturbed soil. In most cases, gravel is not only an acceptable solution, but a preferred one, according to Best in Backyards. Further, it drains better than a flat, concrete pad, reports Site Prep. If your shed comes with a floor frame, then install that floor frame as the shed's instructions describe, and lay wood boards on top of the floor frame. The boards will be the shed's flooring.
