There are certain areas to pay close attention to when caulking, although you can caulk open space that will let in air or inclement weather. Don’t worry, it’s actually quite easy to caulk a wood shed. Here are our professional tips.

Where to Caulk your Wooden Storage Building:

Anywhere siding meets. Caulking the seams will make your storage shed waterproof

Along the trim

Put caulk along the bottom edge of the siding where it overlaps the door

Along the edges of the door

Underneath the roof where it meets siding

Corners

Around the windows

Around air vents

Attractiveness Tip:

Use paintable/stainable caulk (found at any hardware store like Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Menard’s). If you caulk before painting/staining, your shed will look seamless!

Tips for Application:

For latex-based caulk, keep a wet rag or sponge handy to wipe up drips. For silicone-based caulk outline the area with tape if you want your seams to be perfectly straight. Cut the tube hole smaller than you think necessary and test first. It’s easier to make it bigger. Impossible to make it smaller. Start with a small amount, then add more as necessary. Too much caulk can be messy! Don’t try to make your caulk job completely perfect. Water finds its way into the best caulk job, so leave a few air holes for it to dry out.
