“It’s important because otherwise they’ll get dirty, collect dust and debris and that will transfer onto your clothes,” the expert said on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page. “People don’t realise how much dirt pegs can gather when you leave them on the line for days, weeks, months. “Unless you want to get into the habit of washing your pegs, I would definitely advise that you bring in your pegs with your washing. “Otherwise you could have to wash your clothes again to get rid of peg marks.” Thousands of members on the group agreed with the expert, saying they always remove their pegs.

One even admitted to washing their pegs.

“They get filthy if you leave them on. I always wipe my line before I use and you can see the dirt that comes off on the cloth,” said one. “I did leave mine out until spiders decided to take up residence in them, now I bring them in,” added another.

Said a third: “Pegs get filthy, you have to bring them in.”

Some were shocked by the advice, saying they had “no idea” pegs could get so dirty. “I’m stunned, I had no idea. I’ve always left my pegs on the line. Not anymore,” said one.

Others were holding firm on leaving pegs on the line.

“No, no, no, leave them on! It’s so much easier,” said another.

How do you hang shelves without drilling holes?

Popular adhesive strips include Command picture hanging strips, Scotch reclosable fasteners, and Velcro removable mounting strips. You can buy these products from most craft and office supply stores. For extremely small or light shelves, a moldable adhesive glue like Sugru may also work.

To hang a shelf with mounting strips, press the Velcro-like sides of your strips together to make pairs, remove 1 liner from each pair to expose their sticky side, and fix the strips to your shelf. Then, remove the remaining liners and press your shelf to the wall. After holding the shelf for 30 seconds, separate the pairs so that 1 side is attached to the wall and the other side is attached to the shelf. Press down on the wall strips for 30 seconds, and let them set for 1 hour before reattaching the shelf to the strips on the wall.
