WOODLIFE CopperCoat can be used to treat wood that's below ground as well as cut ends that are most at risk. You can also use a borate spray like Bora-Care to keep termites and carpenter ants away from wood. All you have to do is dilute the formula with water and spray it on the wood surface.

Read More »Termite control keeps us very busy during the spring and summer months. The warm, humid climate of the southeast is the perfect weather for termites to thrive. Of the termite species that are found in the U.S., the eastern subterranean termite is the most common here in Alabama. Every year termites cause billions of dollars in damage as they munch away on the cellulose of wood. During spring, when termites swarm, is when a home is most likely to become infested. Tarps. Plastic tarps provide nearly instant protection for goods stored outdoors. Simply covering and wrapping them may be ample for inexpensive items, such as wood piles, keeping them out of the elements. A tarp attached lean-to style along the side of a garage or corner of a fence creates a tentlike storage area.
Plastic crates, such as the kind used by milk and beverage delivery companies, stack and lock together side by side or vertically. These crates are also incredibly strong and weather-resistant. Stack a number of them to create walls that you can hold in place with plastic zip ties. A top for that homemade structure can be an old sheet of plywood, a tarp or other building scraps you come across. If stacked so the crates' open ends face into your storage area, you've added loads of additional storage space for small items such as garden tools, potting soil and virtually anything you don't want to store in the house.
