What causes yellow armpit stains on clothes?

Your sweat consists of water, ammonia, urea, salts, and sugar, and on its own, is colourless and odourless. However, when your sweat reacts with chemicals such as active ingredients in your antiperspirant, laundry detergent, or bacteria, it can turn yellow and cause stubborn yellow stains.

Are you faced with tough stains on the underarms of your clothes when laundry day arrives? Are your white shirts tinged an unpleasant yellow that is difficult to remove? Your anti-perspirant could be the culprit! Yellow armpit staining can be caused by many factors including an individual’s sweat composition. The only circumstances under which your sweat may not be colourless is if you suffer from apocrine chromhidrosis, a rare condition which can cause your sweat to be green, blue, or black, dependent on the chemical modification in individual cases. If you think you are suffering from aprocrine chromhidrosis, contact your GP.

How To Avoid Yellow Pit Stains

If you are sick of unsightly yellow stains, it might be worth switching your anti-perspirant to a natural deodorant. These yellow stains are often caused by a chemical reaction between your sweat and the aluminium in your anti-perspirant, which causes your sweat to turn yellow and stick to your clothes. By switching to a natural deodorant such as those in the Salt of the Earth range, you can eliminate this ingredient while remaining protected against body odour. Our range of natural deodorant sprays and roll-ons contain the active ingredient potassium alum, a mineral salt which creates a protective barrier between your sweat glands and the bacteria on your skin which causes body odour. This formula is effective against unpleasant body odour without blocking your skin’s pores, and is also vegan, cruelty free, and 100% natural.

How To Prevent Yellow Armpit Stains on School Shirts

If your child is a young teen experiencing puberty, sweating and body odour can be embarrassing, and anti-perspirant is often seen as the solution. However, wearing white school shirts can mean that when your child sweats, the aluminium in their anti-perspirant causes yellow armpit stains, which can make your child feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Switching from a traditional anti-perspirant to a 100% natural deodorant is a safe and effective way to help prevent these yellow stains, while looking after your child’s delicate skin. Salt of the Earth’s range of natural deodorants for kids are kind to skin, contain only 100% natural ingredients, and are effective against body odour.

Will vinegar and baking soda whiten clothes?

Vinegar and Baking Soda in Laundry While vinegar and baking soda can sometimes offer benefits in pretreating small stains and odors, a real laundry detergent is always best for great whitening, brightening, odor-removing, pre-treating heavy stains, and fabric softening capabilities.

How Does Washing Clothes With Vinegar or Baking Soda Compare to Detergent?

Let’s get straight to the point: How do these household products compare to a detergent like Tide PODS when it comes to getting clean, fresh-smelling, soft clothes? The "vinegar and baking soda"-type methods were invented at a time when neither the machines nor the detergents were as advanced as they are now to clean larger loads in more efficient washing machines. Even though vinegar and baking soda can help to loosen body soils and pH-sensitive stains by lowering or increasing the wash water's pH level, to actually remove these stains you will need detergent action. Using vinegar or baking soda will only add to the time and cost of doing laundry; they cannot substitute for a high-quality laundry detergent. High-quality detergents like Tide are formulated with different kinds of ingredients optimized to clean a variety of stains such as food greases, which are not pH-sensitive, and eliminate odors while protecting clothes from damage in the wash. Tide's newer, innovative laundry detergents are equipped with powerful cleaning ingredients including surfactants, enzymes, specially designed polymers, builders, and chelants. They not only remove week-old smells in one wash, but they also hold on to all soil and odor types in the wash water preventing them from redepositing onto other fabrics—creating a more effortless and efficient clean. In addition to offering outstanding cleaning performance even in a cold wash, washing with Tide PODS and liquid detergents is easier and quicker than any laundry hack you might come across.
