With beautiful sunshine, beaches, and plenty to do, it’s no wonder folks look to Florida as a perfect spot to down-size, live, or vacation. Tiny house communities in Florida offer affordable fun, scenic vistas, and warmth—perfect for living the tiny life! Many areas of Florida are quite suited to tiny houses and friendly for tiny-house communities. As in many cases, the laws and regulations can vary from city and county, but many rules are quite accommodating for Florida tiny home builders. Some counties have a minimum square footage requirement, but others allow 600 feet or less for tiny living. It’s important to note that some counties, like Sarasota, require you to move parked tiny houses every 45 days. Tiny homes on wheels, or THOWs, must be registered with the Florida DMV and must be road-friendly. But most of these Florida tiny house building restrictions aren’t too arduous for the average tiny house owner. Do your research, and be sure to check out these cities for excellent tiny house communities in Florida.

Orlando

Orlando is one of the best-known spots in Florida. Home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and more, this area is a vacation hotspot. Sun-loving tiny house owners will appreciate the friendly areas of the city, including Orlando Lakefront at College Park, a growing tiny home community. This park has grown from a 1950’s RV park, and allows tiny house owners to park and enjoy the utilities.

Tampa Bay

The ESCAPE Tampa Bay Village is just one of the amazing Tiny House Communities sprinkled throughout the Tampa Bay area. Only a few minutes from the University of South Florida, this village features fully furnished tiny houses available for purchase and rent. Tampa is a a well-know city on Florida’s west coast, that includes St. Petersburg and Clearwater. St. Petersberg is also a well-known area for tiny homes.

Sarasota

Sarasota County is very friendly for tiny house living. Vacation spots like Tiny House Siesta can offer you a taste of the tiny life in Florida without making a full commitment. Neighboring Tampa Bay is also extremely tiny house friendly, as the home to Circle Pond and Escape Tampa Bay tiny house communities.

St. Petersburg

Home to the St. Petersburg Tiny Home Festival, the St. Pete area is another spot that’s ideal for tiny house owners. The St. Petersburg Charitable Land Trust is an up-and-coming area featuring an urban farm and future-planned Florida tiny house community. In general, the location is extremely tiny house friendly, although there are minimum square footage requirements (and maximum requirements). Ruskin

Circle Pond Tiny Home Community in Ruskin has won awards for environmental sustainability. The Florida tiny home community was built from a repurposed mobile home park to offer affordable, sustainable tiny house options.
