Baltic birch plywood is the most versatile plywood available.

Baltic birch plywood is unique because of its all-birch veneer core that’s cross-banded and laminated with exterior grade glue, making for a superior stable sheet. It also has a thicker face veneer than traditional cabinet grade plywood. It is famous for its easy machinability and screw holding strength, which is superior to other plywood options. Its strength, uniform plies and thicker face and backing veneer also make Baltic birch the plywood of choice for pieces where you want to create dovetail or finger joints

Baltic birch plywood near me.

At both our Lakewood and NEW Fort Lupton Colorado full-service lumber yards, you can find Baltic birch plywood! Baltic birch is a plywood product native to the northeastern region of Europe around the Baltic Sea. It is manufactured for European cabinetmaking. This begins to explain the product’s odd sheet size of 5’x5′. Baltic birch’s core is unlike traditional plywood you may be used to seeing. Its high-quality multiple plys (veneer layers) provide a panel that is able to handle heavy loads or high impacts. The plys are nearly void free (no missing knot holes) and perform well even on stereo cabinets and other demanding projects. Its flexibility in thinner thicknesses means it is a go-to item to use on skateboards or curves. The face veneers are slightly thicker, allowing a solid finishing surface to sand, stain, and seal. If the edges are exposed, their density and fineness look good. All these characteristics provide a solid item to use in your next project.

7 reasons to use Baltic birch plywood:

Cleaner Joinery Superior Screw Holding Improved Strength and Stability Thicker Face Veneer with Reasonable Quality Nice Appearance Great for Laser Cutting and Engraving Accepts Paper Back Veneer for More Decorative Projects We stock 5×5 size in ⅛”, ¼” ⅜”, ½”, ⅝”, ¾” and 1” thicknesses of Baltic birth plywood. The 5×5 panels are more economical than the 4×8 sizes. So consider this size for your next project.

Is poplar plywood as strong as birch plywood?

For applications where strength is key Birch is an ideal choice. For users looking for plywood that can be cut consistently on lower power setting then Poplar plywood is a product that is well worth trying.

Poplar is a cultivated wood that grows faster than Birch. Poplar trees are cultivated over a period of around 7 years. They are then harvested and replanted. This provides an endless cycle of sustainable wood from carefully managed forests. Because Poplar grows quickly the wood it produces is less dense than that from slower-growing Birch trees. This means that the denser (stronger) Birch wood used to make Birch Plywood (laserply) makes it ideal for many construction tasks where its increased strength is a benefit. The lower density of Poplar means it can be laser cut at lower power settings than Birch. Poplar also has little (or no) internal knots, which also aids consistency of cutting. The difference can be seen in the two images below, which were both cut on our laser cutter at the same power and speed. Conclusion. For applications where strength is key Birch is an ideal choice. For users looking for plywood that can be cut consistently on lower power setting then Poplar plywood is a product that is well worth trying. ©Kitronik Ltd – You may print this page & link to it, but must not copy the page or part thereof without Kitronik's prior written consent.
