What is the best color for a shed?

Green. If you're searching for a shed paint color that will complement your landscape, our experts say green is the way to go. "Green is a classic exterior color, but a sage green, with a hint of gray, modernizes the hue and connects it to nature," explains Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams.

Your outdoor storage shedi s brimming with design potential—you just need the right paint color to really make it pop. "A well-painted shed can be both a functional and aesthetically-pleasing addition to your exterior," explains Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color & Creative Services at Behr. "Along with adding interest to your backyard, sheds provide an opportunity to play with colors you may not be ready or bold enough to paint your entire home." Not only can an attractive paint color enhance the exterior of your home, but it can also transform what might seem like an eyesore into an eye-catching display for your landscape. "The right paint color can turn a utilitarian structure into something with architectural interest," says Nivara Xaykao, Associate Manager of Color Marketing & Development at Benjamin Moore. "It can make the shed a place you'll always want to return to, no matter the task." Curious about what colors paint experts recommend for a shed? We asked a few pros to share their favorites, and here's what they had to say.

Green

If you're searching for a shed paint color that will complement your landscape, our experts say green is the way to go. "Green is a classic exterior color, but a sage green, with a hint of gray, modernizes the hue and connects it to nature," explains Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams. "My favorite is Dried Thyme SW 6186, because it can be a bold, saturated color, but when outside it will work beautifully with its natural surroundings."

A shed serves as an extension of your home, which is why Xaykao says you should paint it a color that coordinates with the exterior of your house. "A black-and-white scheme, with paint colors like Flint AF-560 and White Dove OC-17, can instantly elevate a shed, giving it a modern, sophisticated look that still complements your home's exterior," she says "The high-contrast colors also enhance the architectural aspect of the structure."

Neutral Blues

In the market for a neutral shed paint color with a little bit of oomph? Our experts suggest trying a beautiful, but versatile shade of blue. "Restless Sea 311E is a beautiful neutral blue that is timeless and elegant," explains Ashley Banbury, Senior Color Designer at Pratt & Lambert Paints. "It complements landscaping while providing a modern coastal look and feel." For a darker shade of blue that doesn't compete with the exterior of a home, Woelfel recommends a classic navy. "A rich, dark navy works well with tans and beiges, a common exterior color," she says. "I love a blue accent for the shed; a few favorites of mine are Superior Blue S490-7 or Compass Blue MQ5-54."

Gray

A stylish shade of gray can make a big impact on the exterior of a shed. "If you're keen to get on the black exterior trend but don't want to paint your whole house, paint a shed a dark, moody charcoal, like Cyberspace SW 7076, is a good option," Wadden says. For an equally compelling shade of gray that provides a touch of warmth, Banbury recommends Livingsten Grey 409C. "Its versatility allows it to complement a variety of architectural styles and exterior color palettes," she explains.
