There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to bonding plastic. Different types of plastics require different adhesives. Plastic is a very smooth material that is non-porous, these properties make it very difficult for an adhesive to bond with anything on the surface. Fortunately, plastic glue is specifically designed to work with the properties of plastic so that you can easily repair or create something made out of plastic. Epoxy and MMA adhesive is the product of a chemical reaction between two compounds - hardener and resin. Epoxy and MMA glue is a great choice when gluing plastic, not only because it is strong and effective but also because it can be used on a range of other materials. Cyanoacrylate Super Glue - Best for Precision Work

Cyanoacrylate is the long name for super glue which can be used for all types of repairs and projects, including use with plastics. Super glue works best when surfaces are less smooth so consider sanding the plastic surface before applying the adhesive. Hot melt adhesives come in a variety of formulations, not all of them are cut out to bond difficult substrates like plastics. However, we do carry a selection of super strong hot melt adhesives that offer a strong bond to a wide variety of plastics making it a favorite for specialty product assembly and manufacturing applications like battery assembly and construction. PUR hot melt is different than traditional hot melt, but it is dispensed in very much the same way. PUR hot melt reacts with moisture in the air and changes chemically to create an incredibly strong bond. This bond then continues to strengthen over 24-48 hours until it is fully cured and super strong. Use PUR when you want the ease of use of hot melt, with a stronger bond.

How do you make a super strong shelf?

Shelves that don't sag are the goal for any kind of shelving. And whether or not that goal is met depends on the materials used and the items placed on each shelf. Each material has a different span limit—or the maximum distance it can span between supports without sagging or breaking under a load. We'll walk you through sag limits for different types of materials, plus offer a few additional shelf support options.

No-Sag Spans

According to architect calculations, books represent an average load of 25 pounds per cubic foot. Listed above are the no-sag span limits under load for the most commonly used shelving materials. Solid hardwood has the best no-sag rating; however, some species are stiffer than others. Birch, maple, and oak are the stiffest, followed by ash, cherry, and walnut. You can increase the stiffness of a shelf by sinking screws into it through the solid back of the case. Or, as shown below, add more strength and maintain adjustability by attaching a cleat or molding to the front of the shelf. Aprons can also be added under the shelf. Increase a wooden shelf's span limit by fastening wood-matched 1x2 aprons underneath (top) or simply by using two plywood pieces (bottom). These supports make the shelf more sturdy without much effort. Railing is another easy way to extend the span limit of your shelf. To add railing, cut a rabbet into a piece of solid molding. Then attach it as a rail that conceals the plywood edge and adds support. Molding does double duty when supporting shelves. It adds strength, but also hides the unsightly edge of the shelf. To add molding, simply attach a 1x2 piece of molding to the shelf's front edge.
