What type of door is best for a shed?

The most ideal shed doors include a continuous steel hinge that is mounted inside the shed, with a door handle that does not allow access to the bolt. These features make storage sheds significantly more difficult to burglarize and not only making it a less ideal target, but taking thieves much longer to break into.

One of the most abused parts of most storage sheds is the door. Usually the only moving piece, shed doors undergo constant wear and tear, not to mention the occasional firm bump or being blown open by the wind. However, the door is also one of the most important components to any storage shed. Shed doors protect your belongings from weather and theft. Making the door a very important element to consider when shopping for your ideal storage shed.

Weather Sealed

Although it usually doesn’t present a problem in the first several months, typical storage sheds offer no seal against moisture. Over time and especially in areas with high levels of humidity, moisture will drip through opening in shed doors. This results in the wood or metal, which hold the door in place to be continually exposed to water causing rust, mold, and flexing of floor and door jam. All of which can be catastrophic to your storage shed. In addition to protecting from weather elements, shed doors with a weather seal also protect against pests including ants, wasps, mice, and bats; where typical storage shed doors are left vulnerable. For these reasons we always recommend utilizing a weather sealed door on any storage sheds intended for more than 1 year of use.

Security

Most typical storage sheds feature doors that are mounted to the main structure with screw-on hinges. Even with a padlock, this poses a significant security risk for most shed doors. With a drill or screwdriver, thieves can simply unscrew a shed door, completely removing it in just a matter of seconds. This makes it unwise for anyone to store belongings in a storage shed with an exterior mounted door. The most ideal shed doors include a continuous steel hinge that is mounted inside the shed, with a door handle that does not allow access to the bolt. These features make storage sheds significantly more difficult to burglarize and not only making it a less ideal target, but taking thieves much longer to break into.

Insulated

Unlike typical storage sheds, which are made of a panel of siding attached to a wood frame. Insulated shed doors feature panels on both sides of the door, insulation padding, and steel frame. This allows for storage sheds equipped with an insulated door to not only maintain a more comfortable temperature year around. But it also makes a much stronger door. Rather than being pierced and broken by a heavy force, insulated doors absorb more of the energy making them more likely to dent. This allows for insulated shed doors to endure mild accidents where a traditional style doors would lose their integrity and ability to protect from weather elements. SUNSET’s storage shed doors utilizes only doors that feature weather sealing, security, and insulation. Making SUNSET’s (WSI) doors the industry’s best shed doors.

Are composite doors better than uPVC?

Both are versatile and can be designed in any way you choose. However, composite doors are more robust and resilient, meaning they will maintain their appearance for longer. While uPVC doors may suffer from the elements and fade over time, composite doors will not.

endurancedoors.co.uk - Composite Doors vs uPVC Doors

A uPVC door is purely plastic, which still makes them an effective door solution for homes across the UK. Their main draw is the affordability and their increased thermal efficiency. But composite doors offer the same functionality to a higher standard, making them a superior choice to the traditional uPVC door. Are composite doors better than uPVC? The difference between composite doors and uPVC doors is in the materials they are created with and the level of durability and security they provide. But, thanks to their design that presses and glues materials together under high pressure conditions, these modern options blow uPVC front and back doors out of the water in terms of strength and resilience. Our composite doors are 10% thicker than most others available on the market, leaving uPVC doors trailing behind in terms of strength and robustness. Made from only the highest quality materials and featuring a solid timber core, Endurance Doors are renowned for their solidity.
