Learn More »If there's one music instrument that everyone tries to play at least once in their lifetime, it's the guitar. Mastering it is no easy feat. Do you know who is the fastest guitar player in the world? There have been many contenders. In 2011, guitarist John Taylor was recognized the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's fastest guitar player. The American guitar teacher played Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's “Flight of the Bumblebee” at an impressive 600 beats per minute. Beating the guitar teacher at his game, then appeared Taylor Sterling from Australia, who reached 999 BPM. Yes, he still has fingers. Just when we thought no one could outdo this figure, American guitarist Daniel Himebauch managed to play at 1300 BPM, during a benefit concert for the first responders of 9/11. Turns out this category has been so disputed, Guinness Book of World Records discontinued the category itself. It issued out a statement explaining its decision: “This record category is currently rested due to the fact that the quality of performance (i.e. clarity of individual notes etc) is dramatically reduced at these speeds. Unless the performance is flawless, it is not a record. We are currently consulting music experts in order to re-open this category.” Ever since, there have been a few musicians vying for the spot of the fastest guitar player in the world, but since the official category has been now dissolved, there is no official title anymore. That hasn't stopped aspiring musicians from trying though. Nirvana Bista, a 17-year-old guitarist from Nepal who lives in Mussoorie, claimed to be the fastest guitar player according to a record he set in 2015. Indeed, the boy pulled off a rather incredible feat when he played “Flight of the Bumblebee” at 1600 BMP.
